Dia de los Muertos is celebrated throughout Mexico and the Southwest states, and coincides with the Christian All Souls and All Saints Days. On November 1st and 2ND people remember those who are deceased. November 1st is considered the Dia de los Angelitos—the day to remember children that have died, November 2ND is the traditional Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead). Pictures of the deceased are placed on Dia de los Muertos altars with their favorite food and drink. Candles to light their way home, and soap and water to freshen-up after their long trip back are also often placed on altars. Trinkets they were fond of, symbols they would understand, and gifts are left to communicate to them that they are always in the hearts of those they left behind, and that they are still part of the family even though they are not physically with us any longer.

Let Them Eat CAKE!!!
I am making this cake like box for a special someones 50Th Birthday. This is going to be where people can put their Birthday cards for her in. I thought it would be a cute idea, something different. Like at weddings they have a decorated box or a bird cage for cards. Its in the making and I am a little stumped on what else to put o it, I don't want to over do it. I hope she likes it!
I used an 8 inch round paper mache box from Joann's and a 10 inch for the bottom. The boxes were pretty easy to cut into, they held up nice. I cut a slit at the top large enough to slip an average size card in. The paper around both tears is frosting with sprinkles, yummy, and I used my favorite thing this year crepe paper!! around the lids.

Cosmic
Tonight my guy and some friends went out and did cosmic bowling. I am surprised that it was my suggestion since I have avoided it for about 4 years. I have fallen and thrown the ball behind me and was scarred since. I actually had fun!! My fingers are really swollen so as I type my hand is being iced. Man I am out of shape.

Thrift Store Thursday
Look at these great things I found at the thrift store today! Look at that pink, it is much more vibrant in person, and the green fuzzy balls (excuse my french..lol..)I have foam tree shapes that I am going to stick these green things in. Still don't know what I want to do with the pink ones, but I just had to have them. I also found these pink birds and bells. I think they are covered in flocking, in the bag of the green balls there was tiny green birds. I also found this adorable little photo book that says "Speaking of the Grandchildren" I think it is meant to be kept in the purse or pocket to show of the kiddy's. I found this great cook book from a restaurant called "The Little Caldron" in Fall brook CA, its in great condition and published in 1975. I love the picks inside.

That's right 6 more days until Halloween! The decor is up the lights are low and the candy is waiting for little monster hands to snatch it up. I hope we get a good amount of trick or treatr's this year. I love to see what the kids are dressed as. I would like to see parents take the time and MAKE a costume instead of a store bought one. I will have to get out some pic of our costumes growing up, my mom hand made each and every costume of ours.

Birthday Banner
My mom and sister came over this weekend to help me actually finish a project! It is a Birthday Banner for my niece's b-day. The theme for the party is going to be Cupcake. I still need to place the glitter letters onto the banner but I think is looks cute.
